Hogwarts Legacy Releases New Update for June 2023
Avalanche Software issues an important update for Hogwarts Legacy that aims to fix some of the game's lingering performance and gameplay issues.
Though a majority of Hogwarts Legacy players have likely finished their first playthrough by now, the developers have just released a significant patch that aims to fix some of the key issues still plaguing the game. Hogwarts Legacy has been a juggernaut in sales despite launching in a stacked year, as Avalanche's open-world Harry Potter title established itself as a worthy contender for Game of the Year, offering an immersive experience in the Wizarding World, as well as electrifying combat.
However, the game launched with a fair amount of performance issues, and though Avalanche Software was quick to iron out the major issues, the delay of Hogwarts Legacy's Switch port speaks to the inherent difficulty in optimizing such an ambitious title. It is commendable that Avalanche has put aside any work on DLCs for the game in favor of making sure Hogwarts Legacy has a smooth launch on all platforms, and the June patch should help conclude the studio's efforts for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

Announced on Twitter by the official account for Hogwarts Legacy, the patch immediately went live, and players can download it for their chosen platform at their earliest convenience. The patch notes that detail the changes made in the new build were appended to the tweet, and they mostly concern stability improvements and gameplay fixes that have persisted from earlier updates. For example, an important continuity fix that the June update tackles is the NPCs and player character accidentally resorting to generic wands in certain cutscenes.
Another important fix concerns the quest tracking in Hogwarts Legacy, as well as no longer allowing players to reload a save in front of a collection chest to double their reward. As useful as the glitch may have been, fans will now have to earn collectibles in Hogwarts Legacy the old-fashioned way. Given how vast the playable area is in Avalanche's Wizarding World title, as well as how helpful the world map is when it comes to pointing in the right direction, it shouldn't be a problem for players who want to complete their Field Guide in Hogwarts Legacy.
Though Avalanche had released a cosmetic DLC for Hogwarts Legacy in May, once the Switch version launches in November, the community is hoping that the developers will eventually tackle a proper content update that either expands on the game's companion system, takes players to a new location (such as Wizarding World's London), or acquiesces to the ever-popular request of implementing Quidditch. Whether Avalanche offers new content for Hogwarts Legacy in the future or fully commits to a sequel, its team certainly has the potential to develop the definitive franchise of Harry Potter games.
